:1: When did you read JRRTīs books for the first time? ... and your feelings at that time and your feelings today?
I first read the LOTR and the Hobbit at 14. I was in holidays and I didn't leave my room for three days. I was in another world. Tolkien's changed my life. He's taught me the real sense of words such as "Friendship", "Love", "Respect" and "Honour".

:2: Whatīs your favourite character in Tolkienīs books? Why?
Sam. Because he's the best friend in the world.

:3: Whatīs your favourite musical instrument?
My favourite instrument is piano, even if I don't use it in my songs about Tolkien. To my mind, that would be anachronistic... All titles have been composed with a piano.

:4: What's your favourite Classical composer ?
Maybe Tchaikovsky... or Grieg... or Chopin... or Ravel... or Carl Orff... Quite difficult to answer.

:5: Why did you start compose music inspired by the LOTR?
To "work" on the LOTR was a kind of exercise for me, but it was also a way to prove my love for Tolkien's books. All begun 6 years ago with "Leaving the Shire", which is a kind of "main title". Everybody leaves the Shire at the beginning of the book : Gandalf, Bilbo, Frodo, Sam... That's why it will be the first song of my "Symphony" inspired by the LOTR.

:6: What's your equipment ?
I work with Emagic's Logic Audio for sequencing and my Roland JV1080 for the sounds. I also have a sampler Yamaha A3000 for choir sounds and some brass sounds.

:7: Future ? Are you going to prepare CD?
I'm trying to find a real symphony orchestra to play my music "live". I hope a CD will be available at the beginning of 2001. Wait & see... I also have other projects but nothing's sure yet. Nevertheless, I'm still composing new titles. Around 1 or 2 a month.

:8: Q: Where are you looking for inspiration? (excepts the books of course) What helps you in composing your music? Music, nature, love ... ?
I find inspiration in my own life. To my mind, Love and friendship are the real thing. I also listen to a lot of music : classical music, movie soundtracks...

:9: Last you wrote, that your CD will be available in 2001. Which songs will be on that CD? All of your songs that you composed till The Breaking Of The Fellowship? Will be these songs in order to story in the book? And the name of CD?
I hope the first CD will be available before june 2001. The music will be played by a real symphony orchestra and the title should be "The Fellowship Of The Ring" or "The Ringbearer Part I". Here is the track list :

1. A Long-Expected Party (5:04) (ex "Leaving the Shire")
2. Curious Gardener (2:08)
3. Hobbit Heart (1:48) (ex "Nine Walkers")
4. One Night In Bree (3:42)
5. On Weathertop (3:29)
6. Flight To The Ford (5:33)
7. Rivendell (4:35)
8. The Gates Of Moria (2:36)
9. The Chamber Of Mazarbul (6:30)
10. Lothlorien (5:00) (ex "The Lady of the Golden Wood")
11. Farewell To Lorien (4:32)
12. The Breaking Of The Fellowship (6:58)

:10: What you think about other JRRTs books? Hobbit, Silmarillion etc. My favourite part of LOTR is the first book (The Fellowship of the Ring). I love the scene Flight to the Ford. (Of course there are other perfect moments - Rivendell, Lothlorien ...). Have you got any favourite place or part in trilogy?
I love "The Hobbit". It's a wonderful fairy tale. As many Tolkien readers my favourite place is "Rivendell". I'd love to live there ! Nevertheless, my favourite parts of the LOTR are all scary moments, especially the part where hobbits first meet the black rider.

:11: I am big fan of films. Do you like films and which types? Whats your favourite films?
I love Emir Kusturica, Stanley Kubrick, Ridley Scott, David Fincher... They're all fabulous directors. I love so many films it's impossible to mention all of them. Maybe "Clockwork orange", "Time of Gypsies", "Paths of Glory", "Alien", "Fight Club"...

:12: Future ? Something about your rock band "Markarnold" ?
"Markarnold" is my rock band. Our first CD should be available at the beginning of 2001. It still depends on many things... so wait and see...

:13: Mr. Deceuninck,
Is there any progress with your symphonic CD ? many thx for your reply
The CD has been released at the beginning of July. The producers are still looking for a distributor. Seems like it's not an easy task. That's why I can't tell you now where and when it will be available. As soon as I have more informations I'll send them to Peter so that he can post them on his site. I'm really sorry for the delay...

Patrice

:14: Hi, Great music ! Iīve heard many other songs related to the world of JRRT, but your songs are really great. What is your equipment that your songs are so realistic ? And I want also ask you If you have any other songs than the mentioned here ?

Tom

Hi Tom.

To begin with, thanks for your kind words. The music you've heard has been composed with a Roland JV1080 and his orchestral expansion card. Otherwise my software is Emagic's Logic Audio (www.emagic.de). But since the beginning of this year I only work with the samples from Peter Siedlaczek's Advanced Orchestra Set (www.bestservice.de) cause the result is much more realistic. I'm composing right now music for short movies with my new equipment. I've asked the directors if the music could be posted on the web and they agreed. So, much more music will be available soon ;-))
